Engaging With Growers

WGGA will engage with growers through communications at all levels – via State and regional bodies, as well as with growers directly.  Communications will include regular contact between WGGA and growers at the regional level, through:

  • Industry roadshow programs
  • Regional media coverage and commentary
  • News bulletins – to regional associations and growers
  • The United Grower Newsletter – published in Australian Viticulture
  • The WGGA website as a major information portal for growers
  • The National Wine Grape Outlook Conference
  • Vineyard Business Development programs managed by WGGA
  • Information Sheets & Bulletins
  • Regular regional contact on current issues through consultations and formal / informal communications

Setting The Industry Agenda

WGGA will set the industry agenda by strongly articulating and advocating the aspirations of growers and their vision for the sector:

  • With State and Regional grower organisations
  • With Government
  • With Winemakers Federation of Australia, the Australian Wine & Brandy Corporation, Grapes and Wine Research & Development Corporation and other industry bodies
  • Through raising the profile of the Australian wine grape sector within the community.

Developing  & Implementing Effective Industry Strategies

WGGA will be the driver of wine grape sector and whole-of-industry strategies to deliver grower sustainability, through:

  • Driving sector strategies arising from the Taking Stock & Setting Directions for the Australian Wine Grape Industry Report
  • Implementation of an all-of-industry strategic plan approach with Winemakers Federation of Australia
  • Driving industry R&D directions and priorities for the sector
  • Managing vineyard bio-security and environmental stewardship programs for the sector, including wine industry membership of Plant Health Australia

Creating Strong & Effective Industry Relationships

WGGA will be the driver of culture change within the wine industry that results in growers and the wine grape sector being accepted as full partners in the development and future prosperity of the wine industry, through:

  • Ensuring WGGA is fully engaged in all national industry forums, key committees and planning activities
  • Ensuring WGGA maintains a regular dialogue and exchange of views with WFA, AWBC, GWRDC, other industry bodies, and with industry opinion leaders
  • Positioning WGGA as the custodian of an Industry Charter and the Australian Wine Industry Code of Conduct
  • Positioning WGGA as the key advocate for a change in industry culture through acting as the conscience of the industry on attitudes to and dealings with growers and the wine grape sector

Facilitating Improved Resources For Growers

WGGA will lead in delivering improved resources for growers, by facilitating uptake and maintenance of industry best practices – via delivery of sector programs in technology adoption, economic benchmarking and business management, environmental stewardship, and bio-security management. WGGA will provide valuable services to members that positively impact the economic bottom line of their businesses, through:

  • Sector trend analysis – making WGGA the primary source of independent information for grape growing businesses
  • Vineyard economic benchmarking to support best practice management adoption
  • Business skills / business development programs
  • Developing & promoting new business management structure templates for collaborative structures & collective bargaining
  • Group purchasing of discounted business inputs and commercial benefits for WGGA members
